This note outlines a comprehensive set of policy measures that India can adopt to mitigate these […]

Reimagining Land Acquisition in Kerala: Towards Rapid Development

Reimagining Land Acquisition in Kerala: Towards Rapid Development

Land acquisition remains one of the most contested issues in Kerala’s development journey. While infrastructure and industrial projects are essential for Kerala’s growth, the inability to acquire land fairly and efficiently has often delayed or derailed them. Addressing these issues requires […]

Waste is not a waste until it is wasted-Turning a problem into an opportunity

Waste is not a waste until it is wasted-Turning a problem into an opportunity

Waste is not wasted until it is wasted – this powerful adage serves as the guiding principle for a zero-carbon lifestyle practiced by all successful cities in the world and the evolution of the circular economy. As an outsider to Andhra Pradesh, I’m consistently struck by the apparent disregard many residents show for keeping their surroundings clean. It’s a disheartening […]

Many still view autism solely through the lens of deficits, overlooking the unique strengths and abilities these children possess. However, increased advocacy, inclusive education, and media representation are gradually reshaping public attitudes. But still only […]

Trump’s tariff hoax – Why the United States cannot substitute India

Trump’s tariff hoax – Why the United States cannot substitute India

India’s major exports to the US are pharmaceuticals, electronics, gems, and jewellery. The US government has exempted or insulated critical sectors, such as pharmaceuticals ($13B in U.S. imports, with India hosting over 262 FDA-compliant plants) and electronics/smartphones, which U.S. firms are actively manufacturing in India. India is currently the largest exporter of iPhones to the US. In the Gems & Jewellery sector, India accounts for 44.5% of U.S. imports. 90% of the world’s diamonds are cut and polished in India. Diamond cutting is artisanal work and has been done in India by artisan families for millennia. In other words, irrespective of whether Trump puts 50%, 100% or 1000% tariff, cut diamonds that go on American engagement rings are going to come from almost exclusively India.
